Diagnostic Fault-Code Scan
Request a QuoteReading stored fault codes from your vehicle's systems as a starting point for finding the problem.
Modern vehicles have many electronic systems, and a warning light or running problem can have several possible causes. Our aim is to find the cause and explain it clearly.
Reading fault codes is a useful starting point, but a code doesn't always identify the underlying fault. Finding the cause may need further testing, and we'll agree any diagnostic time and repairs with you before going ahead.
Reading stored fault codes from your vehicle's systems as a starting point for finding the problem.
Investigating why your engine warning light is on, beyond just reading the code.
Looking into other dashboard warnings and what they mean for your vehicle.
Checking a used vehicle before you buy, including stored fault codes and a general inspection.
Investigating misfires, rough running, hesitation, loss of power or poor fuel economy.
Finding the cause of overheating, coolant loss or heater problems, including leaks, water pump and thermostat issues.
Testing why a vehicle won't start or the battery keeps going flat, including the battery, starter and alternator.
Investigating fuel delivery problems that cause poor running, difficult starting or stalling.
Looking into difficult gear changes, slipping, noises or transmission warning lights.
Tracing faults with lights, windows, central locking and other electrical systems.
Finding what's draining your battery when the vehicle is parked.
Testing individual sensors and components to confirm whether they're working correctly.
Investigating ABS, traction control and electronic parking brake warnings.
Investigating airbag and SRS warning lights. We'll explain what we find and the next steps.
Investigating faults that come and go, which can take more time to reproduce and pin down.
Diagnosis time and any repairs are always agreed with you first. If a fault needs work we're unable to carry out, we'll tell you.
Repair quotes are free and no-obligation. Every vehicle is different, so we quote individually: your quote depends on your vehicle, the parts needed, labour and, where relevant, diagnosis. We won't carry out additional chargeable work without your approval.
Accurate diagnosis helps you avoid replacing parts that don't need replacing. Knowing the actual cause means you can make an informed decision about repairs.
Not sure what's causing the problem? You don't need to be. Choose Vehicle Diagnostics when you book, tell us what you've noticed, and we'll take it from there.
Every CARBE workshop service includes a complimentary 50-point health check. We look over your vehicle's key systems and give you a clear report, so you know what's in good shape and what may need attention.
Your report rates each area green (good), amber (may need attention soon) or red (needs attention), with our findings and recommended actions. Anything we couldn't check is clearly marked as not checked.
The health check is a general visual and functional assessment. It isn't an MOT, a full diagnosis or a guarantee of your vehicle's condition, and it doesn't include dismantling, diagnostic scans or specialist testing. Any work we recommend is only carried out with your approval.
Vehicle diagnostics involves investigating faults using electronic information, testing equipment, inspections and mechanical knowledge. A diagnostic assessment helps identify the likely cause of a problem before repairs are recommended.
A fault scan retrieves stored diagnostic information. A proper diagnostic assessment interprets that information and may include live data checks, electrical measurements, component tests or mechanical inspection.
Not always. Fault codes identify detected problems or affected systems, but don't necessarily identify a defective component. Further testing may be needed to establish the root cause.
Yes. CARBE can investigate engine management warning lights using suitable diagnostic equipment and further checks where necessary. Our aim is to understand the underlying problem rather than simply clear the warning.
Clearing a fault code does not necessarily repair the cause. If the problem remains, the vehicle may detect it again and reactivate the warning light.
An initial diagnostic assessment commonly takes around 30–90 minutes. Complex or intermittent problems may require further testing. We'll explain when additional investigation is necessary and discuss any extra charges.
Diagnostic assessments may carry a charge because they involve technician time, testing and equipment. We'll explain the applicable cost before starting chargeable diagnostic work.
A red warning light can indicate an urgent safety or mechanical issue. Stop in a safe location as soon as possible, consult the vehicle handbook and seek assistance. Do not continue driving if the warning indicates oil pressure, overheating or braking danger.
